About Microsoft Defender alerts for wkRopeGP

Some players have seen Defender flag the RopeGP module. Here is what we know, what we have reported to Microsoft, and what to do if it happens to you.

Some players have seen Microsoft Defender flag wkRopeGP.dll. We believe this is a false positive affecting the official module. We submitted an affected wkRopeGP 0.0.11 build to Microsoft for analysis on 14 September 2026. As of 22 September, its status is still Submitted. Microsoft has not confirmed a resolution or given us a date for one.

For wkRopeGP 0.0.15, we also changed how the public Windows file identifies its build. The exact public DLL and ZIP both passed a fresh Microsoft Defender scan before publication, using definitions updated on 22 September. This is an encouraging improvement, although antivirus reputation and cached definitions can differ between computers, so an occasional false positive may still take time to disappear everywhere.

When you load a supported map, wkRopeGP automatically contacts RopeGP to get the leaderboard and the ghosts needed in-game. Those background downloads are an expected part of the module, not hidden extra software. We suspect this network activity may contribute to the alert, but we do not know which behaviour triggered Defender. We are reviewing each release and looking for ways to reduce these alerts without losing the automatic ghost and leaderboard updates. Each new module version has a different file hash, so we also submit the exact affected release rather than assuming that an earlier report covers it.

If Defender flags the module

First, make sure the alert concerns wkRopeGP.dll in the official download or in your Worms Armageddon installation, and that you obtained the module from the official RopeGP module page. If the filename or source is different, do not allow it.

If you trust the official file, open Windows Security → Virus & threat protection → Protection history, select its alert, and choose Actions → Allow on device. If Defender quarantined or removed the file, follow the steps in Microsoft's Protection history guide to restore it or download it again from RopeGP.

If the alert persists, you can temporarily exclude only that exact wkRopeGP.dll file under Windows Security → Virus & threat protection → Manage settings → Exclusions → Add or remove exclusions → Add an exclusion → File. Microsoft explains file-specific exclusions and warns that an excluded file will no longer receive normal real-time scanning. Do not exclude your whole game folder, all .dll files, or turn Defender off. Remove the exception once the issue is resolved.

If you are unsure, leave the file blocked and let us know the detection name and your wkRopeGP version. We will keep following up with Microsoft and update this page when we have a confirmed outcome.
